How to Actually Land Tech & Travel UGC Deals (Without 10k Followers)

Let’s be real: Tech and travel are the “dream” niches. Who doesn’t want to get paid to stay at a villa or play with the newest iPad?

But because they are the dream, they’re also the most misunderstood. If you go into this thinking you’re an “Influencer” just taking pretty photos, you’re going to get ghosted. I’ve been making content for years, and the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that Tech and Travel brands aren’t buying your vacation—they’re buying your ability to make their product look “lived in.”

Here is the no-BS way to build a portfolio that actually gets these brands to open their wallets.

1. Stop Taking “Postcard” Shots

The biggest mistake in Travel UGC is making a “travel vlog.” Brands don’t care about your montage of a sunset. They want to see:

  • The Problem: Is the airport lounge too loud?

  • The Solution: Show the noise-canceling headphones in action.

  • The Reality: What does the hotel check-in actually look like?

For Tech, it’s the same. Don’t just show the app on a screen. Show your hand holding the phone while you’re walking through a busy street. Show the “glare” on the screen. Brands want it to look like User content, not a Super Bowl commercial.

2. The “Aesthetic vs. Utility” Balance

In Beauty UGC, it’s all about the “glow.” In Tech and Travel, it’s about the “Go.”

  • Tech: Does the app load fast? Is the interface easy? Your videos should show you navigating the tech, not just looking at it.

  • Travel: How does the suitcase handle the cobblestone streets? Does the travel insurance app work when you’re actually stuck at the gate?

If your portfolio shows you solving these “tiny” real-world problems, you’re 10x more valuable than someone who just looks good in a bikini.

3. Your Portfolio Needs a “Vibe,” Not a Resume

When you build your landing page, don’t make it a list of your life story. A brand manager for a tech startup is usually a stressed-out person with 20 tabs open.

Give them this, and only this:

  • One Hero Video: Your absolute best 15-second tech or travel hook.

  • The “Vertical Grid”: 4–6 videos that look like a TikTok feed. They want to see how your content fits on the phone screen.

  • A “Get a Quote” Button: That’s it. No “Services” page, no “Testimonials” from your mom. Just your work and a way to pay you.

4. Why Tech Brands are the Best Clients

Travel is fun, but Tech pays the bills. A travel brand might give you a free stay, but a Tech company has a “Customer Acquisition Cost” (CAC) budget. They are used to spending money to make money.

If you can prove that your video made someone download their app, they will keep you on a monthly retainer. That is how you hit that first $1,000—not by chasing one-off hotel deals, but by becoming the “content guy/girl” for a software company.

5. Just Start With What’s in Your Bag

You don’t need a trip to Bali or the new MacBook to start.

  • Take your current laptop.

  • Take your current backpack.

  • Film a “What’s in my tech bag for travel” video today.

That’s your first portfolio piece. It shows you know the niche, you have the gear, and you know how to talk to the camera.
